Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or record those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email message may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the server to receive routine technical information about the visit:
- Page-view times and the length of a visit
- The pages opened during the session
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- The referring site, when one is available
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure how visitors move through the site, including which pages receive traffic and where sessions end. Analytics providers combine that activity into general usage reports. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and repairing performance or technical problems
- Operating the site and improving page speed
- Routing a query to the selected search provider
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Presenting advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Dallas County Criminal History does not own, compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to records held by the Dallas County Sheriff's Department, Dallas County courts, ALEA's Criminal Justice Information Services Division, and the Alabama Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search tools. Their privacy policies, retention rules, and disclosure practices apply to information entered there, and we do not control those choices. Read the applicable provider policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Dallas County Sheriff's Department, Alabama court systems, state agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you follow a link, the destination's privacy terms govern. Review them before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted advertising.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. It may be available in limited form to:
- Analytics vendors measuring site traffic and operation
- Search providers receiving a query through their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information in our control. No internet-connected system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If such data is identified, it will be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence. The Alabama Public Records Law, principally Ala. Code §§36-12-40 and 41-13-1, governs public writings held by government offices rather than data held by this private site. Separate dissemination limits under §41-9-636 apply to ALEA criminal-history information. You may ask to:
- Opt out of certain processing where a right applies
- Correct inaccurate information in our possession
- Receive a copy of information we hold about you
- Request deletion of data subject to lawful retention duties
